Podcast Takeaway: Perspectives Can Create Change

Episode 16 was recorded on Nov. 16, 2017.

The need to give back to the less fortunate.

A perspective is something that should never be wasted. It should be honed and cultivated into an opportunity to make a difference. It is my firm belief that a person’s perspective is not of their own doing, it’s a culmination of circumstance, opportunity and resources. Therefore, it should not be held against them, but taken for what it is and developed for the better.

Ben Pousty and his wife Cathy took the lead in making a difference because their perspective on life was impacted by a trip to the Philippines. There they witnessed the plight of the less fortunate, children forced to stretch their resources in an attempt to maximize the opportunity for a better life. With this in mind, Project Phil was born.

I harken back to my first days in the United States. I first sat in an American classroom at 9 years old, the 4th grade. Not used to the amount of books, chalk, pens, or paper they had at their disposal I didn’t know what to do with myself. With the thought of where I was just days before, I’ve found myself grateful for the position I found myself in.

This isn’t an indictment of others. It’s an explanation of the driving force behind my love for where I am today and where I could be in a few years. Because chance smiled upon me, giving me my fortune.

I hope to never forget where I came from and why I am not different than any other person I meet. It’s just my perspective.
