Deshaun Watson is the leader we all need right now - He recently chose to give his first ever game check to three cafeteria workers affected by Hurricane Harvey in the Houston area. Being as impressive as this is, it’s the fact that this is his first paycheck that makes the gesture even more notable. Not to mention the road he’s taken to become the starting quarterback of the Houston Texans.

There has been hardships, trials, and tribulations along the way for the young man. At 9 years old, his living conditions were so poor that his family was gifted a home through former NFL running back Warrick Dunn’s charity. While in high school his mom was diagnosed with cancer and was forced to have her tongue removed. He’s lived true to the testament that, while the circumstances you were born into are important, it’s how you live your life that makes your story that much more special.

Ask anyone who’s followed him throughout his amateur football career, they’d say that his most endearing qualities aren’t found in his athletic ability. They lie in his characteristics as a man, as a leader, as someone who brings people together. It seems that right now, we are in desperate need of more people like Deshaun Watson.
